What is the criteria for cleaning fresh broccoli?

Fresh broccoli may be checked for insects by first soaking it in saltwater; if bugs float to the top, you'll need to throw it away, since that indicates that the broccoli is infested and that you'll never find all the bugs. If no bugs float to the top, or just one or two, you check carefully through the florets and then run it under a strong stream of water.
