Color War! Rosh Chodesh Adar!!
Chodesh Tov! We have definitely been “b’simcha” at Midreshet this week, as we ushered in Adar.
Sunday morning, Fagie, our eim bayit, broke out color war at 10:00, after a shiur on “Miracles – Revealed and Hidden” was given to the girls in two groups. The students gathered in the Beit Midrash and thought they were being disciplined only to be interrupted by some of their peers, who were “in the know,” shouting “COLOR WAR!!!” It took a minute for everyone to transition into the festive mode, but soon everyone was singing and dancing and awaiting further color war announcements. The two teams - nes nigleh (revealed miracle) and nes nistar (hidden miracle) spent the rest of the day in fierce competition for “The Golden Hamentash” Activities such as Musical Chairs (with 54 girls!!), an Apache Race, Dodge ball, our very own Fear Factor as well as the more traditional dvar torah, banner, cheer presentations were some of what made the day super fun! Mazal Tov to…Team Nes Nigleh on a well-earned victory! Yasher Koach to the captains Sharona Elmaleh and Sara Hausdorff, and a special thank You to Esti Laboda and Shevs Matanky who spent three weeks planning all of the activities, in Top Secret Mode.
Monday morning, in the spirit of “v’nahafoch hu” the teachers cooked the students fancy omelets and scrambled eggs made-to-order. Faculty member Leora Bednarsh shared a Dvar Torah about the way eating and feasting is portrayed in Megillat Esther. What a fun and yummy way to start the morning!
Tuesday night we were privileged to have Prof. Smadar Rosensweig, Jewish Studies and History teacher at Stern College, speak to the students about Mordechai and Esther bringing the story of Amalek full-circle, by finishing the job their ancestor Shaul had started, but which he never fully fulfilled. Her passion and knowledge were so inspirational, and the students were so engaged, giving answers, making connections and taking copious notes.
