Tiyyul: Chevron and Kever Rachel

This past week, we took our annual tour of Chevron, in anticipation of Parshat Chayei Sarah, in which Avraham purchases Me'arat Ha-Machpelah as the first Jewish foothold in Israel. Led by Rav Simcha Hochbaum through Chevron, we heard about the amazing "mesirut nefesh" (self-sacirfice) of the families who choose to live there and saw firsthand how they have made Chevron their home.

We also were able to see the park that the Midreshet girls from last year (08-09) helped build as their chessed project in memory of Aliza Nat Shull z"l. After having a pizza lunch in the Gutnick center, we headed out to Kever Rachel, where we heard from Vicky's sister, Aviva Pinchuk, about Rachel Imeinu, and saw the parochet made from Nava Applebaum's HY"D wedding dress. After spending the day in Chevron, many girls were inspired to spend Shabbat there this weekend, when the kever of Yitzchak and Rivka will be open. It is sure to be a "chavaya" for everyone who goes!
