Yom HaShoah
Yom HaShoah morning began with everyone gathering in the Beit Midrash with Michal Porath Zibman to learn mishnayot in memory of those who were murdered during the Holocaust. Michal then explained a brief history of Yom HaShoah and about the commemorative siren that is sounded throughout all of Israel in memory of the victims. We then went up to Har Herzl, which is a street usually very heavily populated with traffic, in order to watch the traffic and the drivers stop for the commemorative siren. When the siren went off at 10:00 am, it was truly a breathtaking moment as all of the cars stopped in mid traffic and the Midreshet students stood in silence amongst the hundreds of people on that street. We then watched the movie 'Escape from Sobibor'. We were very privileged to hear an usual story of a Holocaust survivor, Rebbitzin Esther Wagner, who told us of her incredible journey to survival in Europe. From jumping off a train on the way to the death camp Belzec, to hiding as a Christain maid amongst Gentile families in Warsaw, her story is one of tremendous heroism and Emunah. Rebbitzin Wagner came together with her daughter Malkie Weisberg who spoke about growing up in the home of 2 parents who were both Holocaust survivors. It was a very special day at Midreshet.
We are so thrilled to welcome back all of our students after Pesach vacation and are thrilled at their enthusiasm that they have showed this week while settling back into their schedule of Torah learning!
