Midreshet Moriah

Application Video Weekly Maor

Facilities & Services

Our Location
Midreshet Moriah and its dormitory are located in the Educational Wing at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, between the neighborhoods of Bet HaKerem and Bayit VeGan.

Our Dormitory
Our unique dormitory is home to all of our students together on one floor, which makes it much easier for you to get to know one another quickly and become comfortable.

Each room has its own private bathroom and shower, is attractively furnished and carpeted, and has its own refrigerator. The rooms are centrally heated. A Bezeq (land-line) telephone line can be installed in the rooms. Each room is home to usually three, sometimes four girls.

The dormitory is supervised by resident madrichot (counselors) and an Em Bayit (house mother). In order to create an environment of kedushah at Midreshet, we do not allow the viewing of movies, television shows, music videos, and the like. Students may not bring movies, programs, or videos in any form (DVD's, electronic formats on hard drives or memory cards, VHS tapes, or any other formats) and may not bring devices which can play movies (laptops, DVD players, and any other equipment which can be used for viewing videos). If found, equipment will be confiscated until the end of the year, with no responsibility on Midreshet's part for damage or theft. The only exception is an Ipod or similar MP3 player, which may be brought provided that the student commits not to use it to view videos. If a student uses an Ipod for videos, it will be confiscated until the end of the year, with no responsibility on Midreshet's part for damage or theft.

Communication Services
Faxes may be sent and received in our office (fax number 2-651-1524). E-mail service is available for a $50 fee.

Shabbat
Our dorm is open on Shabbat, with a madrichah in attendance, meals provided, and a spirit and sense of Shabbat through zemirot and Divrei Torah. You may spend Shabbat outside the school with family, friends or members of our faculty as long as no school program is planned. Shabbatonim throughout the country are scheduled throughout the year (check our calendar).

Chagim 5768 (2007-8)

  • We will spend Rosh Hashanah & Shabbat Shuvah together in Neve Daniel with our Menahel Chinuchi, Rav Eitan Mayer; our Em Bayit, Fagie Reves; and other Midreshet teachers who live in Neve Daniel.
  • You are invited to the home of Rabbi Meyer and Vicky Berglas in Neve Aliza for Yom Kippur.
  • Sukkot & Pesach: On the first and last days and on Shabbat Chol HaMo’ed, the dormitory is closed. On Chol HaMo’ed, the dormitory is open. We are happy to assist you in arranging home hospitality, if desired.
  • We will spend Shavuot together at Midreshet Moriah on campus.

Meals
A light breakfast of cereal and milk is provided. Lunch, the main meal, includes soup, salad, a main course, cooked vegetable, starch, and dessert. Meals are served on days when shiurim are in session. The dormitory has a small kitchen for the students’ convenience, with limited cooking facilities, including ovens and microwaves. You may bring (or buy in Israel) a toaster-oven or sandwich maker (220v) to prepare light meals and snacks in their rooms. In the lobby of the adjacent hospital building, you will find the Shaare Zedek cafeteria, which has a selection of dairy and pareve sandwiches, salads, drinks and snacks. It is open from 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM.

Banking, Shopping, Post Office
A branch of the United Mizrahi Bank is located in the hospital on the main floor near the cafeteria (hours: Sun.–Thu. 8:30-12:00), and the ATM machine is always available. Across the street from the dormitory is a shopping center which includes a supermarket, pharmacy, kosher pizza, bakery, Bank Ha-Po’alim, and other shops. The gift shop in Shaare Zedek Hospital carries some personal items, film, stationery and miscellanies. There are two post office branches nearby.

Laundry
Laundry facilities are located on our third floor. Laundry tokens are available in the office. Each student is responsible for her own laundry. Students may also arrange for pickup and delivery service.

Leisure & Curfew
You must return to the dorm by 11:30 PM on weekdays and 12:30 A.M. Saturday nights. You may sleep out on Thursday nights after signing out with madrichot and may occasionally invite friends to sleep in the dorm with the prior permission of the madrichot. You may not stay in a hotel without adult supervision deemed appropriate by the school.
