With great joy, Midreshet Moriah celebrated its twentieth year in 5767 (2006-7). As we look back over two decades of achievement, excellence, warmth, and inspiration, we look ahead to an even greater future, Be-Ezrat Hashem.
Midreshet was founded in 1985 by Rabbi Meyer Berglas, who continues to inspire and enlighten students today as our Dean. Responding to the need for a strongly Zionist, high-level learning program for girls looking to connect to Torat Yisrael and Am Yisrael in Eretz Yisrael, Rabbi Berglas opened the doors of Midreshet to 70 students from all across North America, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Europe. Together with a circle of Israel's most inspiring and sought-after scholars and teachers, this select group of diverse students established the first Midreshet family.
Midreshet's tradition of outstanding, creative, inspiring teachers was established by its founding faculty, including Dr. Bryna Levy, Rabbi Dr. Reuven Aberman, Rabbi Dr. Aharon Rakefet, and others. Our tradition of attracting students of outstanding achievement and character into this environment of growth was established from the very beginning as well. Today, we are proud that these traditions continue and thankful to Ha-Kadosh Barukh Hu for our success, which now continues into its second generation.
From the very beginning, Midreshet has been located on the campus of Shaare Zedek Medical Center. Our unique location is blessed with a beautiful, spacious Bet Midrash, where the students of twenty years have made their places and made their mark; a dormitory which allows all of our students to live together on one floor, allowing them to meet and make connections from the very first day; and a special neighbor, Shaare Zedek hospital, which has provided a constant opportunity for chesed and bikkur cholim.
Midreshet is very proud of its over 1,400 alumnae, all of whom continue their education after Midreshet at leading universities. Midreshet alumnae are highly represented in positions of leadership and prominence in communities all across the world -- many in Israel!
Midreshet continues today as a warm, family-like environment where we emphasize the individual growth of every student; close relationships with teachers and mentors; the opportunity to create a passionate relationship with Torah through challenging, exciting shiurim and in private chavrutot with our faculty; and lasting ties to friends, teachers, and the Land.
